Gunstock Hillclimb Returns for Bike Week
Wednesday, June 12, 2019 Gilford, NH
The Gunstock Hillclimb is returning to Gunstock Mountain Resort on Wednesday, June 12. Staged by Ridge Runner Promotions and presented by Laconia Harley Davidson, this adrenaline packed day of action consists of two separate events – an Amateur Invitational in the morning and a $20,000 American Hillclimb, sanctioned by AMA Pro Racing, in the afternoon. Bigger and better than ever before, this super charged event is certain to be a focal point for thousands of motorcycle enthusiasts who visit the Lakes Region of New Hampshire during the 96th anniversary of Laconia Motorcycle Week.
A classic Bike Week tradition dating back as early at 1938, this popular event was resurrected in 2017 after a six-year hiatus as an amateur-only competition to kick off the celebration of Gunstock Mountain Resort’s 80th anniversary. Climbing the steep runout of Gunstock’s historic 70 meter Torger Tokel Memorial Ski Jump, a massive earthen start ramp has been constructed to add even more flair and excitement for the spectators who come to witness some of the best amateur and pro riders as they race to the hilltop finish line. Ridge Runner Promotions and Gunstock have agreed to hold the Hillclimb at the ski jump location through 2023, which will be the 100th Anniversary of Laconia Motorcycle Week.
“We are thrilled that we have recently cemented our agreement with Ridge Runner Promotions to keep the Gunstock Hillclimb at the historic 70 meter ski jump at Gunstock through the 100th anniversary of Laconia Bike Week,” said Gunstock General Manager, Greg Goddard. “Michael Farnsworth and his team put on the best show on steeps and there isn’t a better venue for uphill racing. We are also especially pleased that fans will now have the option to bring in their own beverages for the event or grab a cold one in our VIP lounge area – the best of both worlds!”
In addition to Laconia Harley Davidson, Bank of New Hampshire has signed on as a corporate sponsor of the Gunstock Hillclimb. As always, a special 50/50 raffle will be held by Ridge Runner Promotions, with proceeds benefiting the Shawn Farnsworth Memorial Fund.
“Laconia Harley-Davidson is proud to be the presenting sponsor for the Gunstock Hill Climb,” a representative from Laconia Harley-Davidson said in an official statement. “Hillclimb is one of the oldest forms of motorsport and an important cornerstone event to complement Laconia Motorcycle Week. Laconia Harley-Davidson looks forward to seeing the riders showcase this sport at the spectacular Gunstock Mountain Resort.”
AMA Pro Racing has awarded the Gunstock Hillclimb as the venue for this year's prestigious Top 10 All-Star Challenge. This specialized event happens annually, alternating different promotors and different featured competitions. All of the riders in the Pro category will compete in two consecutive rounds, accumulating score points. The top 10 riders with the highest scores will then face off in a third and final round.
“After a brief hiatus, we are very excited to have the All Star Challenge Pro Hillclimb back in the area at Gunstock Mountain Resort,” said Michael Farnsworth of Ridge Runner Productions. “There will be three rounds of Pro fun, featuring the top competitors in the country as they battle for the purse.”
Gates open to the public at 8am. Opening ceremonies are at 9am, immediately followed by the Amateur Invitational running until noon. Intermission and entertainment is noon - 1pm. The AMA Pro Racing American Hillclimb will run from 1pm – 5pm, with awards to follow.
Admission is $20 for the day, and free for children 10 and under. Onsite food, beverage, and retail vending are available at the Hillclimb. The event is BYOB, with beer and wine available for purchase on site. Please note: no backpacks or large bags, no tents or umbrellas, no glass bottles, and no animals will be allowed into the venue.
Hillclimb spectators and Laconia Motorcycle Week visitors are invited to make Gunstock their home base for the week. Camp sites are available in easy walking distance to the Hillclimb in Gunstock’s expansive campground, voted Best of NH 2018. The Adventure Park, voted Best of NH 2018 and 2019 for Lakes Region Summer Attraction, will be open with reduced operations, featuring the high-speed ZipTour, Mountain Coaster, and Scenic Lift Rides overlooking Lake Winnipesaukee.
